Retro Gaming – Growing Up One Console at a Time
I couldn’t have picked a better time to be born! Home console gaming was practically in its infancy. The Magnavox Odyssey had introduced the world to the first home video game console in 1972, Atari launched its legendary 2600 in 1977, Nintendo brought the NES to North America in 1985, and PlayStation arrived in 1995. I was growing up right alongside an industry that was about to change entertainment forever.
As Atari, Nintendo, and PlayStation evolved, so did I. Every new generation brought bigger adventures, better graphics, and a whole new reason to spend ridiculous amounts of time in front of a screen. From my first joystick and little white television to today’s handheld gaming, they’ve never really loosened their grip on me.
I’m still a sucker for a good rail game, and when life gets a little too loud and my brain needs to shut the hell up, nothing beats grabbing my Nintendo Switch and disappearing into a Minecraft coma for a few hours.
Some people outgrow their childhood toys. Apparently, I just keep buying more expensive versions of mine!
