Loungefly started in 1998, originally making quirky accessories with things like skulls, owls and domed handbags. The mini backpack style that basically became its calling card arrived in 2016, and in 2017 Loungefly joined Funko, which opened the door to a much bigger world of licensed pop-culture collections. Since then, it has expanded far beyond backpacks into wallets, crossbody bags, apparel, sweaters, pins and other accessories built around fandoms people already love. Loungefly

And therein lies the problem.

Because Loungefly apparently looked at Disney, Star Wars, horror, 80s nostalgia, cartoons, movies, video games and basically every other weakness I possess and decided they should all be available in purse form. The designs are often ridiculously specific too — not just “here’s a character on a bag,” but little details, custom linings, themed zippers and designs that make collectors immediately think, “Well… this one is different.” Loungefly itself describes the idea as wearing your fandom, which is really just a polite corporate way of saying they have figured out how to make my hobbies wearable while quietly taking all my money.
